The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor measures vacuum and pressure in the intake manifold, sending critical data to the engine control module to calculate proper fuel injection timing and air-fuel mixture ratios for optimal combustion.

A failing MAP sensor triggers check engine lights, causes rough idle at stoplights, hesitation during acceleration, black exhaust smoke, poor fuel economy, engine knocking under load, and difficulty starting in cold weather.

MAP sensors work closely with Mass Air Flow sensors to provide complete airflow data to the engine computer, while Exhaust Gas Temperature sensors monitor the results of combustion downstream.
